Confetti | A Personal Challenge

Well, it has been a while.  We are finally moved and mostly settled in to our new home in Virginia.  I LOVE my new home.  For now we are renting but I will say that leaving this house is going to be very hard.  I have always wanted to live in a house with an upstairs, downstairs and a basement.  It is a very real dream come true.  Although I have a few boxes that I am slowly cleaning out, the majority of our stuff has been unpacked.  It's been 2 weeks since we got here so I figure I'm doing ok on the unpacking part.  In a couple days I am going to have a post up with photos of our trip, the new house and life since we got here.  We have been to the DC Zoo, driven by most of the monuments and explored Woodbridge a bit.  The kids are in school and life is pretty much back to normal.  Except for my scrapbook stuff.  That is all still in boxes.  It is sad.  Next week I will be on the lookout for some bookshelves and pieces of wood to paint to make a desk and storage for myself.  For now I am still scrapping on the dining room table.
I have a few DT projects in the works but last night I just wanted to scrap for me.  I am sure if you look at any of my pages you will see that most of my pages have small photos and a lot of white space.  My challenge to myself was to use one of my 4x6 photos from my photo wall to make a page.  I took all the photos out of my frames and replaced them with new ones so I had a pile of perfectly pretty photos to choose from.  This one is a favorite from when my youngest was 2.  She and that bear are still inseparable.

It was fun to step outside my comfort zone and reawaken my creativity with the large photo challenge.
Have you tried something new lately?  Do it!  It's really fun!

this is you | paper issues cut file

On Saturday a new FREE cut file was posted at Paper Issues.  I didn't have time to play with it before it went live so I made something on Saturday to share here with you.

I just grabbed up the memory planner goodies from PI and couldn't wait to play with them.  I don't have the planner binder yet but there was so much to use I figured I could make a page while I waited.  These polka dots and flowers were calling my name.

As always, head on over to Paper Issues to grab the free cut file and link up to win a swag bag.  Cassie's swag bags are amazing so you don't want to miss grabbing one for yourself.

rest | paper issues pinspire challenge

Today brings a new challenge to paper issues.  The pin this time was just so much fun.  The colors and all the hearts are perfect for a non traditional "love" theme.  I wish I would have had a photo of my hubby and I to use with this but I am still super inspired and will probably make another page later.

The Perfect Pairing - New PI Issue

It's time for a new issue at Paper Issues!  This time we are talking about Perfect Pairings and the prize is from Epiphany Crafts.  Suggested link up ideas: use a favorite color combo, photo of you and someone you love, wedding photos, anniversaries, use two of something (same embellishment, etc.), photos of food/favorite food pairings, love, Valentine's Day, hearts, favorite pair of shoes/earrings/anything that comes in pairs, use "we make the perfect pear/pair" as a title/sentiment.

My page features my wonderful husband and I as a perfect pair.  We are finding things that we love to do together just by ourselves.  This time it was a football game.  I never thought I would love a sports arena and a game of football live.  Too many people, too loud...but I loved it.  It was a really fun thing to do with my husband.  Cannot wait to get to do more of these fun things with him.

Go to the Paper Issues now to link up for your chance to win a Heart25 tool plus a package each of the coordinating charms and bubble caps.  This is a super fun tool so you don't want to miss the chance to win one.

Serendipity spotlight.

Sherri is sharing a spotlight on Serendipity at the paper issues blog today.  I had to share this photo of my littlest with her ferret.  She is the ferret whisperer.  Every time she holds him he yawns a few times then falls asleep.  This time I managed to capture the yawn.  This is something I didn't want to ever forget.

Die Cutting Saturday at Paper Issues

Today is Saturday and you know what that means!  Another Cut File is up at the Paper Issues blog.  This one is adorable (and FREE).

For this page I cut just the + file and layered it with my papers elements and the leftover +'s from the cut.  Under the cut I added some pretty scraps to fill the "windows" with different colors.

Paper Issues Cut File #3

I finally get to play with cut files now.  YAH!!!  My husband, FIL and MIL went together to purchase my Silhouette Cameo.  Of course the first thing to do was cut some basic files and a few WA I made in PS.  Then I was ready to have some fun with the cut file at Paper Issues.  This file is available for free on the PI blog.  Download it, make something with it and link up for a chance to win a January Swag Bag.  This challenge is almost over with Friday being the last day to link up.  There are only a handful of link ups so you have a pretty good chance of winning.

Here is my page with the file.  I took the whole paper that was left after cutting and placed it on a white 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock.  Then I grabbed all the triangles that were cut out, flipped them over to the B side.  Those went back into the cut outs in a few places for contrast.  I think it came out pretty neat.

New Mixed Media Layout

I grabbed some of the new Dear Lizzy stuff from Paper Issues and finally had time to play with it.  I loved the colors and patterns, especially the pink.  The first thing I just had to do was make a mixed media page so I could add in even more color.  The Mask was perfect for adding some dimension before I painted. I laid the mask on my 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock, then spread out a thin layer of modeling paste over, making sure to fill all the little spots.  After carefully pealing the mask off, I let it dry completely (make sure to carefully wash the mask with warm water immediately).  My favorite Faber Castille gelatos (used like watercolors) and a little misting of Heidi Swapp's gold color shine added just the right amount of color/shimmer to the background.  Then just to layer on some papers, a photo and some stitching to finish it.  45 minutes later I have a beautiful brightly colored page that perfectly represents my vibrant 6 year old.

paper issues: pinspire me monday

There is another fabulous challenge at Paper Issues this morning.  I just love the pin this time.

The blues, browns and whites plus the grid inspired me to make this page of my girls.  I used a bakery bag I had saved from Starbucks and a few goodies from my stash to create this.

What the #@!$%& - New Issue at Paper Issues

It's time for a new Issue at Paper Issues with Feed Your Craft as the sponsor.  This time the theme is "What the #@!$%&"  Now that does not mean bad words.  We are talking about punctuation.  Things like word bubbles, anything to do with speech/talking/a lot of journaling, a child's first words, use flair, office supply products (paper clips, binder clips, ledger paper, staples, etc.).  The first thing I thought of was this photo I had of my son on the Texas Star Flyer at Pleasure Pier this summer.  He was WAY up in the air.

(feed your craft flare + Gossamer Blue's on my desk and gramercy road + Heidi Swapp Color Shine + dear lizzy glitter foam stickers and AC cork letter stickers)

The prize for this months issue is some lovely flair from Feed Your Craft.  You seriously don't want to miss this one.  See the flair on my page?  That is from Feed Your Craft.  Aren't they lovely?  I think I want one of everything from her shop.
So head on over to Paper Issues and get started on your page.  Don't forget to link up over there to be eligible for the prize.

Sketch lovin'

One thing I love about scrapbooking is the abundance of challenges available at any time.  If you are ever in a rut and just want to be inspried, head to Paper Issues or Studio Calico and check the blogs for their sketch challenges.  I know there are a ton of other places to go but these two are my fave,  :)

This one is for Paper issues.  There is a link up on the blog with a chance to win PI gift card.

I used Maggie Holmes papers  + Open book ephemera and flowers.  Sequins are Studio Calico.

This one is for the weekly sketch at Studio Calico.  I rotated and tilted the sketch a bit.

I used Maggie Holmes Open book ephemera and flowers + Heidi Swapp papers and color shine (gold and mustard) plus a few of my Grandma's sequins.

I hope I have inspired you a bit today.  Go check out these sketches and link up!
